Back in the old days the recommendation was don't worry about it. Then we went through a phase where we recommended total rest and no sensory input at all. No reading, math or television. This was known as the cocoon treatment. We now know that total rest is bad. What should happen is no athletic activity where a chance of concussion can occur and activity as tolerated to not provoke symptoms. Start with reading, light walking and a slow progression to normal activities. See the Article in the J.A.M.A. (Journal of the American Medical Association) Neurology if you want more information about treatment or to find out how to figure if you or a loved one has had a concussion see my earlier blog post.
